PAUL & ANUSHREE

British Groom and Bengali Bride came all the way from Manchester to India to get married in Bengali style.

For a wedding planner it is a treat to plan a Bengali wedding from beginning to end, while the fun, the food and adda are important to any Bengali wedding, it also involves elaborate preparations which is rich in culture and tradition where every ritual is performed with great care and precision. 7th Heaven had fun planning Paul and Anushree’s wedding from A-Z. It was a two days affair, started with 100 guest transfers and receiving at airport from different parts of the world. These guests were welcomed in Bengali style.
First day event started with one of the most important pre-wedding rituals in Bong culture, “the aashirbaad ceremony”, where elders from the respective families bless the bride and groom. Next day started early in the morning at the dawn of the wedding day with Dodhi Mangal and later in the day the gaye holud (haldi ceremony) happened. The wedding decoration was simple yet elegant, keeping in mind the true essence of “Amar Bangla”. The mandap is the most important part of any Hindu wedding so the mandate was decorated in all grandeur. We used the rich colors like white and red and golden, with quintessential carnation flowers with red and white chiffon drapes. The groom came in cycle rickshaw and the baraati danced in the beat of the Dhaki’s troupe, and was welcomed in a special way by our Bengali dance troupe: ’females with sankho, kulo and male with dhunuchi and dhak’. Anushree was brought on a flat wooden stool, called pidi by her brothers and maternal uncles of the bride to the mandap and carry her around the groom seven times in a row. The bride face was covered with a pair of betel leaves all this while and once the seven rounds were complete, Paul and Anushree had there shubho drishti followed by male bodol (exchanging of garlands) and then sat for the wedding ritual. Be it a Bengali wedding or any other, even with all the crazy drama, the one thing that keeps it all together is the sheer happiness. You simply cannot be unhappy with everything that goes around during a wedding!
